Mary Kay Pestoff Hanes, 58, of Terre Haute went home to her heavenly family on Sunday, April 10, 2016. She will be greatly missed. Mary Kay was born July 14, 1957 in Terre Haute to Harry Clifton Pestoff and Dorothy Louise Lundstrom Pestoff. She worked for Goodman and Wolfe Scrapyard for 20 years alongside her sometimes beloved uncle and boss, Vincent Lundstrom.
She is survived by her sisters, Ann Miller and Veronica Schmidt of Terre Haute; and her brothers, Joe Pestoff of Brazil, IN and John Pestoff of Arden, NC. Also surviving are several wonderful in-laws, Martin Schmidt, Jr. of Terre Haute, Christine Pestoff of Brazil, IN and Marianne Pestoff of Arden, NC. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; cousin, Katie Spencer; and her good friend Michelle Robinson.
On January 18, 2003, Mary Kay married Daniel Hanes (Arp, Texas). They were engaged in high school, separated, and finally re-acquainted through the internet. However, time and experiences had changed them and they found that they could not live together. They parted but were still dear friends. Daniel has always been her love.
Mary Kay was a graduate of Terre Haute South Vigo High School and attended St. Patrick Catholic Church. She loved to read romance novels, travel to the beach and occasionally drop coins in the slot machines.
The family of Mary Kay would like to thank all of those who were involved in her care for the last 7 months. The staff of Hospice of the Wabash Valley were loved by Mary Kay, especially, Gwen, her aide, Stephanie, her message therapist, and CJ, her social worker. Dr. Guarav and Dr. Crawford were instrumental in her care. Finally, the staff of Springhill Village are thanked for their caring nurses and therapists during her final stay.
