Mary Lou Albert, 75, of Terre Haute passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, July 11, 2018 after a long and well fought battle with lung cancer. She was retired as the Chief Operating Officer of Terre Haute MedLab after 36 years of service. Mary Lou was born April 9, 1943 in Rosiclare, IL to Ralph and Mildred (Humm) Herman.
Mary Lou married Don Albert in 1965. Don survives along with her two sons, Eric (Natasha) Albert of Terre Haute and Andy (Shelly) Albert of Avon, IN; and six grandsons, Connor, Landon, Brayden, Brody, Barron and Briar Albert. She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Fred and Clara Albert; granddaughter, Faith Albert; and special friends, Dick and Sally Davis.
The Albert family would like to thank Dr. Darren Brucken for his expertise and the loving way he cared for Mary Lou during her illness and her final days. Also, sincere gratitude to Sally Stewart, Bev Dunbar and Cathy Wagner for all of their support, love and guidance throughout Mary Lou's journey.
Mary Lou was a graduate of Rosiclare Community High School, Eastern Illinois University and the Lakeview School of Medical Technology. She was a member of professional organizations such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) and the Clinical Laboratory Managers Association (CLMA). She was an advisor to the Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) program at IVY Tech and also served on the IVY Tech Resource Development Committee.
Mary Lou was an advocate of community programs such as Catholic Charities where she was awarded the Distinguished Council Member Award and Kiwanis of Terre Haute where she served on its' board of directors. She enjoyed many hours playing golf in leagues at the Elks and Rea Park and was an avid bridge player as well. Some of her happiest times were spent at the bridge table with her special SSAD (Stewart, Steadman, Albert and Dunbar) party bridge girls in addition to her bridge groups at the Sycamore Club with partner Carol Tolin and the Fourth Tuesday Bridge Club. Mary Lou was blessed to have close travel companions and enjoyed time spent traveling and shopping with them.
Mary Lou was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. A special "Thank You" would like to be extended to all of Mary Lou's physicians, nurses, therapists and caregivers for the loving care they provided to her.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at St. Patrick Church, 1807 Poplar Street, with Father Rick Ginther and Father Martin Day, OFM Conv. officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place immediately following burial at "The Venue", 1327 Wabash Avenue. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, July 16th from 4:00-8:00 PM in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. Active Pall Bearers will be her four oldest grandsons; Connor, Landon, Brayden and Brody Albert, and good friends; Bill Stewart and Dr. Darren Brucken. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Dr. Bashar Kashlan, Dr. Gerald Longa, and Tom Dunbar.
