Mary Ann Darbutt Fuelle, 84, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away at Southwood Health Center, Terre Haute, Indiana, on Saturday, September 30, 2023. Mary Ann was born April 12, 1939 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Alex J. and Aline L. (Bruner) Darbutt. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sisters Margaret Rose and Edna Eileen, sister Katie Oxendine (Bill), brother Joseph (Diana) and beloved husband, James.
Mary Ann and Ron Hall (deceased) are the parents of Donna Hall McDaniel (Steve), Chris Hall Noel (Jeff), Mary Hall Schend (John), Ron Hall (Karen Rush) and Mike Hall (Raylen). Mary Ann and Jim Fuelle are the parents of Olivia Fuelle Goulding (Jared). Mary Ann is stepmother to Susan Fuelle Tingley (Michael), Kathy Fuelle, Danny Fuelle (Bonnie) and Tom Fuelle (Brenda). She is also survived by her brother David Darbutt of South Carolina, 23 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Mary Ann obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Indiana State University and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Indiana University at IUPUI, Indianapolis. In her position as social worker for St. Anthony Hospital, Terre Haute Regional Hospital and Park Medical Group, she was a fierce advocate for the elderly and the disadvantaged. She received the 1992 Family of the Year Award from Family Services and the Dr. Thomas Frist Humanitarian Award. Among her many volunteer contributions were Hospice of the Wabash Valley and St. Ann Clinic.
She was a lifelong member of St. Ann and St. Margaret Mary Catholic Churches in Terre Haute where she sang in the choir for many years. People will remember her beautiful soprano renditions of “Ave Maria” and “O Holy Night”. Her greatest pleasure in life was cooking for her family and friends who still lovingly remember her delicious food and gracious hospitality.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 28, 2023 at St. Margaret Mary Church from 10:00 am-12:00 pm with a mass of Christian burial immediately following.
The family would like to thank the staff of Southwood Health Center and Elara Caring Hospice for the outstanding care they gave Mary Ann and Jim. The family will be forever grateful for their compassionate care and attention.
