Mary Margaret Dammann, 78, of Terre Haute passed away Friday morning, December 27, 2024. She was born June 28, 1946, in Carrollton, IL to Leo Grummel and Shirley Cochran Grummel. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Anna Shaw.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Edward A. Dammann; sons: Edward Dammann III (Alicia), Gregory A. Dammann (Holly), Michael W. Dammann (Jennifer) and Bryan J. Dammann (Jessica); four brothers: Leo Grummel (Mary), Thomas Grummel (Kathy), James Grummel (Mary) and Joseph Grummel; and two sisters: Marcella Million and Anita Clifford (Dennis). Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Miranda Dammann Hayne (Arlington J.), Mackenzie Dammann, Macey Dammann, Allison Dammann, Alexander Dammann, Aiden Dammann, and Nick Barushak; a great-grandson, Rowan Heyrend; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary worked for several years at Varda Electric, for a medical billing company on the corner of 7th and Wabash, and at the Highland Lawn Cemetery Office. She then went to work as the secretary for the Fire Chief at the Terre Haute Fire Department. Later, she worked at the Vigo County Recorder’s Office. Mary volunteered at and retired from the Wabash Valley Health Center. She was a member of St. Ann’s and St. Joseph University Parish, American Legion Auxiliary, Marine Corps League Auxiliary and F.O.P. Auxiliary. She was artistic and loved to sew and crochet. She also enjoyed camping and traveling with her family.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2025 at St. Joseph University Parish, 113 South 5th Street, with Father Bob St. Martin officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home with a eulogy by Gregory Dammann at 7:30 p.m. A second visitation prior to services will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2025 at St. Joseph University Parish. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society or Catholic Charities. Funeral information and tributes may be found at www.callahanandhughes.com.
