Mary G. (Boland) Cooper, of Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Springhill Village following a gallant battle with cancer. She was born on February 22, 1946 in Terre Haute to James V. Boland and Anna (Cahill) Boland. She was married to Mike Cooper in 1974 and they were happily married for 36 years before his death in 2010.
Mary graduated from Schulte High School in 1964 and Indiana State University in 1968. Mary was a teacher for 42 years with the Vigo County School Corporation. She taught Special Education and Elementary Education at Franklin, Meadows and Rio Grande Schools. She truly enjoyed her students and witnessing their progress. Mary was an exceptionally devoted wife, mother, teacher and family member. She was consistently sensitive and responsive to the needs of others.
Survivors include her daughter, Jenny Cooper; brothers, Bill (Mary) Boland and Jim (Rose) Boland; a sister-in-law, Diana (Mark) Williams; and brothers-in-law, Gary Cooper and Dan Cooper. Also surviving are nieces, Colleen (Dave) Sutliff, Megan Boland, Jamie (Clint) Gregory, Kristin Cooper (Lawrence) and Casey Bukovack; nephews, Sean (Jennifer) Boland, Brennan (Ashlee) Boland, Scott (Melanie) Cooper, Matt (Brandy) Cooper and Joe Bukovack; great-nieces, Kaleigh Sutliff, Erin Sutliff, McKinley Boland, Addison Hicks, Sydney Bukovack and Juliette Boland; great-nephews, Reece Boland, Kaden Hicks and Mitchell Boland; and cousins by the dozens. Mary was also preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Anthony (Tony) Boland.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:00 AM, Saturday, October 27, 2018 in St. Benedict Catholic Church, 111 South 9th Street, with Father Martin Day, OFM Conv. officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday from 4:00-7:00 PM with a brief Prayer Service at 7:00 PM in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. If friends should desire, memorial contributions may be made to P.S. We Love You, a childhood cancer fund at Riley Hospital for Children. Contributions may be made at any 5th Third National Bank .
