Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Carr

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Carr, of Terre Haute passed away Saturday afternoon, November 27, 2021 at the age of 104. She was born May 30, 1917 in Clark County, IL to Oscar Shawver and Cecil Kelley Shawver. Her husband, Merrill Thorp Carr, preceded her in death in 1969.

Survivors include her two daughters, Rebecca Evers of Terre Haute and Martha Burk of Westwood, MA; five grandchildren, Deborah Klein (Steve), Sarah Evers, Erika Burk (Michael Jonas), Kurt Burk and Rebecca Canelli (Gerald); and five great-grandchildren, Jessica Klein, Kaitlyn Klein, Emma Jonas, Sophie Jonas and Gabriella Canelli.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Kelley Shawver and her sister, Evelyn Littlejohn.

She had the most amazing caregivers. They became family over the years. The family is so thankful for the love and care that was provided by Sandra Barnhardt, Amy Jo Conley and Jennifer Kelley.

Betty attended Indiana State Normal College and later Indiana State University.  She enjoyed gardening and birding, and many walks with her dogs at Dobbs and around the neighborhood.  She was a proficient Seamstress and created many crafts.
