Martha "Marty" Thompson

Martha “Marty” Thompson, age 75, passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on May 11, 2022 due to a hemorrhagic aneurysm.

Marty is preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Norma Schuessler, brother, Ronald Schuessler, and her husband of 53 years, Professor Robert “Bob” Thompson. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Thompson Hock (Jeff) of Terre Haute, Indiana, and son, Andrew Thompson (Rachael) of Encinitas, California, as well as her grandchildren, Mary and Hailey Hock, and Robert, Madeline, and William Thompson. Marty is also survived by her sister, Ruth Jones, of Tempe, Arizona, and nephew, Mark Jones (Ronda), as well as her nephews, Keith (Barbara) and Kevin (Kim) Schuessler, and her sister- and brother-in-law, Cookie and Jerry Dooley, and their children, Tami Smith (Jimmy) and Mark Dooley (Shelly).

Marty was raised in Evansville, Indiana.  She attended Indiana State University where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Vocational Home Economics, a Master’s degree in General Home Economics and a Master’s degree in Library Science.  Marty spent a decade teaching as a professor of home economics at St. Mary of the Woods College, then taught and served as a librarian for eleven years within the Vigo County School Corporation.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother with a passion for learning, spending time with friends, and gardening.

Visitation will be at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25 ^th Street, on Monday, May 16, 2022, from 4 to 7 pm.  Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph University Parish on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at 10 am with Friar Savio Manavalan officiating.  Burial will be private.  If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Vigo County Education Foundation or the charity of your choice.
