Martha Lois Spears Sweeney

Martha Lois Spears Sweeney, 94, originally from Terre Haute, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she had lived since 2007 with her daughter. She was born on April 7, 1927, in Terre Haute, to Paul J. Spears and Bernice Hammond Spears.

Martha was married to Gordon C. Sweeney, Jr., January 1, 1950.

Martha was a beloved mother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Martha A. Sweeney and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Martha taught school for 33 years at Dugger High School, Pimento High School, Prairie Creek High School, Merom High School, Deming School, McLean Jr. High School, and Chauncey Rose Jr. High School.

She received her B.S. and M.S. degrees from Indiana State University.

Martha was a life time member of Maplewood Christian Church and a member of First Christian Church of Albuquerque, NM.

She loved to travel, having travelled extensively throughout the United States with her husband in their Airstream travel trailer. Martha and her daughter had many international travels and cruises which they enjoyed so much.

Martha was a 65 year member of the Beta Pi Chapter of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and a 65 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star #528.

A funeral ceremony will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021 at Roselawn Chapel of Memories.
