Martha "Jane" Oltean, 99, passed away May 23 with her family holding her hand & loving her. She was born at home Sept. 2, 1919 with her twin sister Margot (Meg) to Stephen & Pearl (Hill) Effinger. Jane married Steve Oltean on Feb. 10, 1941. They were married over 50 years before Steve passed away. During her life Jane, along with Steve and Meg & Mike Oltean, owned several businesses in Terre Haute, the Idaho Club, Meg's Beach Comber, D & O Realty, Surf Club & Flamingo Room. She & Steve retired in Ft. Myers, FL and had a wonderful retirement traveling, going to the beach, & socializing with the many people they knew from Terre Haute, who also retired in Florida. During their married life Jane & Steve were generous givers to anyone or any cause that was in need. They gave quietly with most people never realizing how gracious they were.
Jane is survived by her twin sister Meg Grandidier, and her niece Vicki Oltean Bailey, who she was a second mother to her whole life. Other family are Vicki's husband Jim, their daughters Jaime Auten (Mike), Leslie Loveless (Brandon) & Carrie Garner (Scott) & their children Chase, Eliza, Bailee, Preslee, Bella, & Ryan who all loved & helped care for her. Other nieces & nephews include Steve Elmerick (Linda), Kelly Hosking (Brian), Derek Elmerick (Virginia), Mark Elmerick, Cathy Cooper (Gary), Amber Cooper, Curt Cooper (Lacy), Crystal Giordani (Steve), Mike Oltean (Paige) and many great nieces & nephews. Jane was preceded in death by her husband Steve, and sisters Betty Cline & Catherine Elmerick.
The family expresses gratitude to the 5th floor staff at Westminster Village, and Dr. Kumar and caregivers on the 3rd floor at Regional Hospital, especially nurse Audra. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to 14th & Chestnut Community Center. Jane requested that there be no sad funeral for her so there will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, June 1, at 12:00 PM at Westminster Village. Please join the family for lunch and laughter as we celebrate the life of the one and only Aunt Jane.
