Marlowe A. Owen

Marlowe A. Owen, 89, of Terre Haute passed away Wednesday morning, October 14, 2020.  She was born December 15, 1930 in Milwaukee, WI to George W. Gronberg and Vera Fossum Gronberg.  Her husband, Donald E. Owen, preceded her in death in 2003.

Survivors include her daughter, Kim Mazur (Michael) of Jim Falls, WI;  her son, Eric Owen (Jennifer) of Fort Dodge, IA;  a brother, Gary Gronberg (Fran) of Bismark, ND;  three grandchildren, Kayla (Jim), Garrett (Courtney) and Jordan;  and  4 great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Kay Owen;  a brother, Charles “Chuck” Gronberg;  and two granddaughters, Jessica and Bethany Mazur.

Marlowe was a graduate of Bismarck (N.D.) High School and received her bachelor’s degree in Math and Chemistry from North Dakota State University.  She met her husband, Don, on a blind date on April Fool’s Day.  They were married for 47 years.  Early in her career Marlowe performed soil analysis for the state of North Dakota and later worked preparing taxes for H & R Block and Lyle Barr and Associates Accounting.  Most recently, Marlowe taught chemistry to incoming freshmen and nursing students at Indiana State University.  She loved following college sports and was thrilled when she was named “Coach of the Day”, and was allowed on the sidelines with the Sycamore team for the entire game.   She was a member of ISU Faculty Wives, Trio Bridge Club, Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and Restaurateurs dinner group.  One of Marlowe’s biggest thrills was when she zip-lined at the age of 83.  She also loved to knit, specializing in Christmas stockings for family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, October 20, 2020 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25 ^th Street, with Pastor Dana Newhouse officiating.  Visitation is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 19 ^th from 4:00-8:00 PM in the funeral home.  Burial will be Roselawn Memorial Park.  If friends should so desire memorial contributions may be made to the Donald and Marlowe Owen Scholarship Fund (for a student majoring in science), c/o ISU Foundation, 30 North 5th St., Terre Haute, IN 47809.  Funeral information and tributes may be found at www.callahanandhughes.com
