Marjorie C. Burnell, 95, of Terre Haute passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2015 in Meadows Manor East. She was born at home, south of Newton, Illinois on February 24, 1920 to Aaron & Carrie Richards. Her husband, Ralph Burnell, preceded her in death. They were married for 39 years before his death in 1974. Survivors include her son, Gary Burnell of Terre Haute; two grandchildren, Gary Burnell, Jr. and his wife, Kimberly, of Lakeland, Florida and Lesley Rowe of Terre Haute; two great-grandchildren, Savannah & Dalton Burnell of Lakeland, Florida; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dorothy Tanner; and daughter-in-law, Linda W. Burnell. Marjorie was a housewife and an Avon Representative for over 56 years. During her time with Avon she met and became good friends with many of her customers. Marjorie was a supporter of several charities in the community where she enjoyed helping others during her wonderful life. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Local #157 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union and attended Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Traveling was one of Marjorie's favorite things to do and she made many trips with her husband and friends all over the United States as well as several countries overseas. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 Noon on Friday, October 2, 2015 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street with Pastor Rick Swan officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to services on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 12 Noon. The family kindly requests that memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 3050 East Davis Dr., Terre Haute, IN 47802 or to 14th & Chestnut Community Center, 1403 Chestnut St., Terre Haute, IN 47807.
