Marie Wilkinson

August 24, 1920 — October 12, 2021

Marie Wilkinson, 101, of Terre Haute, Indiana set sail for her eternal home on October 12, 2021 with her Savior Jesus Christ at the helm.  She passed away peacefully at her apartment in Sycamore Manor with her family by her side.  She was a quilter not a quitter.  Marie was born of Anna and Frank Delorme on August 24, 1920, in Lehigh, Oklahoma.

Marie was graduated from Garfield High School.  On September 7, 1946, she married John M. Wilkinson in the living room of her parents’ home on N. 17th Street.  Married for 57 years before John’s death in 2003, together they raised three sons, always putting family first.

Marie enjoyed craft projects, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and canning vegetables from the backyard garden.  For many years she was an active member of Dean Avenue Christian Church.  She and John attended many local sporting events and were in the crowd cheering during the Larry Bird years at ISU.  They followed the career of pitcher Tommy John who grew up across the alley from her parents.

Marie rolled out noodles and baked homemade yeast rolls for holidays, and would always mount an impressive campaign to ensure the success of family gatherings.  She led the day-to-day planning of the annual family fishing trip to Minnesota and would quietly slip as many sunfish into the basket as anyone.

Marie retired from Midland Glass as an inspector when the plant closed.

Marie was predeceased by her parents;  husband, John Wilkinson Sr.; sister, Rosine Harmon;  brother-in-law, Tom Wilkinson; sister-in-law, Carol Burdette;  her husband’s step sisters, Mary Frances Davis and Beverly Jean Fish; and her best friend for life, Rose Acrea.  Marie is survived by sons, John Jr. (Judy) Wilkinson of Tallmadge, Ohio, Clay Wilkinson of Terre Haute, and Bruce (longtime companion Sue Anne Knisley) Wilkinson of Chillicothe, Ohio.

Also surviving are sister, Jane Braden, and sister-in-law Suzanne Boswell, both of Terre Haute;  grandsons, Brian (Antoinette) Wilkinson of Potomac, Maryland and Bradley Wilkinson of Durham, North Carolina; great-grandsons, Reid and Connor Wilkinson of Potomac, Maryland; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5:00pm – 8:00pm on Friday, October 15, 2021 at the Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana 47803.  Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 10:00am on Saturday, October 16, followed by internment at Roselawn Memorial Park.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Sycamore Manor and Southern Care Hospice for the loving care they provided to Marie during the past year of her life.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make donations to The Gideons International, P. O. Box 1192, Akron, Ohio 44309, the American Heart Association or Southern Care Hospice.
