Marie Theres Tracey Cummins, 88, of Terre Haute passed away peacefully at home early Monday morning, February 1, 2016 with her loving family at her side. She was born September 15, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA to Charles Edward Waters and Mary Elizabeth Ryan Waters. Tracey was the loving wife of Hugh Thomas Cummins, Sr. for 63 years before his death on October 22, 2015. Theirs was a love story that would have rivaled Tracy Hepburn, Garbo Gable and anything else that Hollywood could have come up with.
Survivors include her four sons, Tom and wife, Nancy, and Ryan and wife, Mary Ruth, all of Terre Haute, Neil and wife, Jane of Lake Forest, IL, and Andrew and wife, Shannon, of Portland, OR; and her two daughters, Mary Wolf and husband, Mike, of Minneapolis, MN and Patsy Wilson and husband, Jerry, of Buffalo, NY. Tracey adored her fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren (with 2 more on the way this spring), and to them she was affectionately known as Grammy. She loved them unconditionally and with any accomplishment they achieved, her trademark response was Thats Wonderful !. Also surviving are several loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, Tracey was also preceded in death by three brothers, Father Joseph Waters, Charles Waters and an infant brother; and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Garty and Helen Dixon.
While she would be the first to say she was not a fan of cooking, to this day Traceys daughters and daughters-in-law, still serve her famous dishes. She was the glue, the example of the family and as one of her daughters-in-law said, she taught us all how to be a great mother. That kind of summed her up. If you asked her grandchildren what is their favorite memory of Grammy, their response would be Christmas Eve at Grammys- piles of presents, laughter and love. In addition to her dedication to her family, she was also a loyal and dedicated member of her St. Patrick Catholic Church family as well.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 6, 2016 in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1807 Poplar Street, with Father Rick Ginther officiating.
