Marie L. Comoford Brown, 88, of Terre Haute passed away Sunday morning, October 7, 2018 in Union Hospital. She was executive secretary of the Selective Service Office and later was MSC Manager and Postmaster's secretary. She retired at the same time as her husband, Judge Robert Howard Brown, in 1988. Judge Brown preceded her in death in 1991. Marie was born February 17, 1930 in Peoria, IL to James J. Comoford and Jessie Gayle Mahler Comoford.
Survivors include her children, Beverly Fay of Cory, IN and James Brown (Glinda) of Tipton, IN; a daughter-in-law, Tami Brown (Don Havens) of Tipton, IN; four grandchildren, Robert Howard Brown III (Tiare) of Tipton, IN, Patrick Ray Brown of Richmond, VA, Tina Teskey (Merle) of Brownsburg, IN and Robin Dragon (Dan) of El Paso, TX; and six great-grandchildren, Jack Howard Brown, Mallory Teskey, Shelby Christian (Joey), Quintin Dragon, Nadia Dragon and Sylvia Dragon. In addition to her parents and husband, Marie was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Howard Brown II; a daughter, Deborah Lynne Norvanis; a sister, Gayle Comoford; and a son-in-law, Howard Phillip Fay.
Marie was a graduate of Wiley High School and attended Indiana State University and Indiana University. She aided in organizing P.M.A. (Positive Mental Attitude) Group to help federal inmates about to be paroled integrate successfully in society. Marie was a member of Catholic Students Mother's Group at ISU, Sacred Heart Mother's Club and Schulte Mother's Club. She was a charter member of Terre Haute Law Wives and was a member of Friends of the Library, Lioness Club, Business and Professional Women, Vigo County Historical Society, Sycamore Club, YMCA, AARP, and NARFE. She was also a Regional Hospital Volunteer, a Family Service Volunteer and was a Literacy Tutor. Marie had numerous interests; avid reader, enjoyed many book clubs, signing to work with the hearing impaired and she traveled extensively.
Private funeral services were held on Thursday, October 11, 2018 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Father Martin Day officiating. Private burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
