Marian C. Carney, 89, died peacefully surrounded by her family on December 3, 2014 at Union Hospital. She was the oldest child to Harry and Mary Nacke Weust, born November 1, 1925 in Terre Haute, IN. She attended St. Margaret Mary's Elementary School, Central Catholic High School (St. Patrick's), and Indiana State University.
Marian is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Bernard W. Carney; their 4 children, Michael Carney and wife, Kathy of Terre Haute and Sue Carney, Patrick Carney and wife, Cori and Peg Carney Finzel and husband, Rob all of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Katie Carney, Meghan Carney, Kelli Carney, Tucker Bruinsma (Finzel), and Cate Finzel; a brother, Harold Weust and wife, Sheila of Terre Haute; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Weust of Terre Haute and Joy Weust of Rockford, IL; and a brother-in-law Joe Carney and wife Barbara, of Terre Haute. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, John Weust and wife, Molly of Katy, TX, Cate Weust Deblcourt of Wyoming, MI, Kevin Weust and wife, Jan of Terre Haute, David Weust and wife, Karen of Terre Haute, Phillip Weust and wife, Jennifer of Indianapolis, Jeff Weust and wife, Valerie of Indianapolis, Claire Weust Paullus and husband Eric, of Terre Haute, Steve Weust and wife Rose, of Rockford, IL, Terry Weust Staggs of West Palm Beach, FL, Kathleen Carney Marshall of Cincinnati, OH, and Janet Carney Cooper of Terre Haute. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mary Weust; brothers, Jack Weust and Robert Weust; nephews, Gregory Weust and Joseph Weust; as well as aunts, Bertha Weust Hauck and Emma Weust for whom she was a dedicated caregiver for many years.
Marian was a devoted full time wife and mother. Her kindness and relentless giving to others was paramount. Marian had a special passion for live music, Big Band, and especially Frank Sinatra. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Patrick's Church, where many years were spent with St. Patrick's Soup Kitchen, Altar Society, and Adoration Chapel. Other organizations she was involved in included Catholic Charities Christmas House and Alpha Sorority (Chi Omega).
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 6, 2014 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1807 Poplar Street, with Father Rick Ginther officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, December 5th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
