Margot Ann Grandidier

September 2, 1919 – April 5, 2022

Margot “Meg” Grandidier, 102, passed away on April 5, loved by her family. She was born at home with her twin sister Martha Jane to Stephen & Pearl (Hill) Effinger.  Meg worked hard her entire life, along with her sister Jane, owning many businesses in Terre Haute. Together with their husbands they owned The Flamingo Club, The Surf Club, Meg’s The Beachcomber & D&O Realty.  Meg retired in Florida with Jane & Steve enjoying the sunshine and their family & friends from the Terre Haute area.  Returning to Terre Haute, she volunteered at the Union Hospital gift shop & 14 th & Chestnut community center. The happiest time of Meg’s life was being a Grandma & Great Grandma. Later in life she was known as “Grandma Meg” to everyone. On her refrigerator there was a sign that said, “You can’t help getting older, but you don’t have to get old”.  That is the way she lived her life.  As a Grandma, she took all the grandkids on multiple cruises, trips to New York, vacations with her at her condo in Ft. Myers and wonderful summers at Paint Mill Lake.  Meg was very big into arts & crafts. She could draw anything you asked for. She spent hours with the grandkids doing all kinds of wonderful things. When the great grandkids came along she continued the tradition.  She played & offered advice at the same time - Uno was a favorite card game (but don’t cheat), painting was fun (always start at the top & work down), Play Doh took up hours (don’t mix the colors), dress up was great fun (always clean up when your are done).  She was never too busy to sit & play. Meg is survived by her daughter, Vicki Oltean Bailey & her husband Jim, three granddaughters, Jaime Auten (Mike), Leslie Loveless (Brandon), & Carrie Garner, great grandchildren Chase Morris, Eliza Morris, Bailee Garner, Preslee Garner, Isabella Loveless and Ryan Auten,  also several nieces & nephews. Meg was preceded in death by her twin sister Jane Oltean (Steve) and sisters Betty Cline (George) & Catherine Elmerick (Oscar). As a child Meg attended Montrose Church & later in life Memorial United Methodist. The family expresses gratitude to all who helped Meg in so many ways when she lived at Westminster, all the staff, her neighbors,   Melissa Strange who was a blessing in so many ways, the staff on 3 rd floor at Union Hospital and staff at Davis Gardens.  A special thank you goes to Dr. Koj, who cared for and loved Meg & Jane for years as if they were his family. If friends so desire, memorial contributions can be made to 14 th & Chestnut Community Center at 1403 Chestnut, Terre Haute, IN 47807. Meg requested that there be no sad funeral, so a celebration party will be held at a later date.
