Margie C. Gauer

April 13, 1929 — June 28, 2021

Margie C. Gauer, 92, of Terre Haute, IN, passed away on June 28, 2021. She was a loving and devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law, neighbor, parish member, co-worker and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Gauer, the love of her life, who died on April 15, 2015.  Survivors include daughters, Mary Ann Clark of Terre Haute; Michele Laine (Mike) of Indianapolis; and Leisa Gustin (Bill) of Holt, MI; six grandchildren, Sarah Wallace (Joey) of Terre Haute, Nicholas Clark (Kelley) of Louisville, KY, Eric Laine (Alex) of Brooklyn, NY, Katie Laine (Jonah) of Arlington, VA, Timothy Gustin and Zachary Gustin of Holt, MI; two great-grandchildren, Trey and Mayah Wallace.  She is also survived by her two sisters Shirley Bayer Altman of Ocala, FL and Bettye Jean Kuhn (Tom) of Evansville. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, most especially Carla Gauer who was a dedicated and loving visitor throughout Margie’s final years and days.   Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mary Margaret Bayer, grandson Christopher Gustin, son-in-law Tony Clark and brother-in-law Joseph Altman.

Originally from Evansville, she graduated from Memorial High School.  She moved to Terre Haute when she married Harold on August 18, 1951. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where she volunteered at the school and church.  She was a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Altar Society.  While she was able, she provided food for the Ruthmarie Newport Thanksgiving Dinner and many bereavement luncheons.  She was also involved in the Schulte High School Mothers Club.

Margie retired from AP&S Clinic and also worked at Root’s Department Store.  She loved to sew, making clothes, curtains and accessories for many.  She enjoyed gardening and shopping, and was a faithful viewer of Indiana Pacer games.   Of all her passions, spending time with her family was her favorite.  She loved supporting their activities, especially attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s basketball games.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 9, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1807 Poplar Street, with Father Benjamin Syberg and Father Dan Bedel concelebrating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 9:00-11:00 A.M. in the church before services on Friday.

The family would like to thank Sycamore Manor, the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care and Providence Health Care for their loving care of Margie in her last weeks.
