Margaret Houston

Margaret (Peggy) Patterson Houston, 68, of Schererville, IN, and formally of Terre Haute, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2016, at Residences of Deer Creek in Schererville, IN. She was born on November 1, 1947, in Terre Haute to Herbert L. Patterson and Millicent Martin Patterson. Peggy was a retired school teacher and is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Dr. James Houston.
Other survivors include a son, Andrew C. Houston and his wife Emily of Park City, UT; two daughters, Melinda Teumer and her husband Jeffery of Schererville, IN, and Meredith Houston-Speece and her husband Andrew of Concord, CA; her father, Herbert L. Patterson of Terre Haute; three brothers, Timothy Patterson and his wife Dawn of Northfield, MN, Gregory Patterson and his wife Jeane of Kalamazoo, MI and Chris Patterson and his wife Shelly of Terre Haute; a sister, Betsy Brown and her husband Larry of Terre Haute; and six grandchildren, Drew Teumer, Meghan Teumer, Asher Houston, Sierra Houston, Parker Speece and Cooper Speece, and
Numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother. Peggy was a 1964 graduate of Wiley High School and continuing on with her education graduating in 1970 from Indiana State University. She earned her Masters Degree in Special Education from St. Ambrose University and taught in many elementary schools in Terre Haute, North Carolina and Michigan. Peggy was a member of First Baptist Church, Tri Kappa, Gamma Phi Beta sorority, Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved knitting, sewing and was an avid reader. Peggy was devoted to her family and extended family.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday June18, 2016, in
Callahan Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street with the Reverend Rick
Kassel officiating. Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to services in the funeral
home. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution
be made to: Alzheimers Foundation of America, 322 8thAve. 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
