Pastor Loyal G. Bishop, age 86, passed away on June 11, 2016 from Parkinsons disease.
Loyal was born to M. Glenn and Ethel Bishop on February 12, 1930 in Mansfield, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Marilyn Beattie Bishop who was a retired Vigo County school teacher. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Becky and Dave Schrecker, Brad and Jana Bishop, Todd and Chris Bishop, Greg and Renee Bishop, his grandchildren: Adam Bishop (Sarah), Emily Halley (Anthony), Katie Schrecker, Tyler Bishop (Elyce), Ali Bishop, Meg Bishop, Will Bishop (Hannah), Sam Bishop, Carson Bishop, Bailey Bishop, Austin Bishop, Drew Bishop, Connor Bishop, and his 3 great- grandchildren: Riley Bishop, Olivia Bishop, and Liston Halley, his friend Jan Lemond, his brother Roger Bishop (Barbara) of Waverly, Iowa, a nephew Mike Bishop(Kelly) and a niece Cheri OHagan(Tim).
He attended Wittenberg University and graduated in 1955 with a Masters of Divinity degree from Hamma School of Theology. While at Wittenberg, he met and married Marilyn. A beautiful couple, during their senior year, he was the captain of the football team, President of the Senior Class and she was the homecoming queen. He was a member of Lambda Chi fraternity. As a star athlete (football, basketball and baseball), Loyal was inducted into the Wittenberg University Hall of Honor in 2004 and the Wadsworth Sports Hall of Fame in 1985 (football, basketball, track and baseball).
His life was spent serving God, his congregations and the communities where he lived. He served as a pastor in Bowling Green, Ohio, Bay Village, Ohio, Lexington, KY and Terre Haute, IN. He coached his sons teams while growing up and participated in the church softball league as long as possible. He always made an effort to attend his grandchildrens activities either in Terre Haute, IN, Bloomington, IL, Rosemount, MN or Herndon, VA. Family vacations were very special with all the children and grandchildren together. He would share remembrances of growing up in the 1930 1940s, farming and his love of horses. He enjoyed playing games on the beach showing his competitive spirit always! For many years, he volunteered as a track and cross country official at ISU and the Lavern Gibson NCAA events. Loyal loved life, learning and people. Never one to sit still, he was always busy with community outreach, traveling and attending sporting and cultural events. An avid supporter of ISU athletics he could be seen cheering at the football, softball, and basketball games. He was a member of the Strawberry Hill Cannoneers. When he was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease, he continued his outreach and concern for others and in 2006 started a support group in Terre Haute.
After retirement, he continued to serve in the community with various groups including Hospice of Wabash Valley, Family Service Association, Trees, Inc, Booker T. Washington High School Nursery, and the Parkinsons Disease Support Group.

Visitation will be June 24th from 4pm 8pm at Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47803
Funeral will be June 25th at 2pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2620 Ohio Blvd, Terre Haute, IN 47803 followed by internment at Highland Lawn Cemetery.
