Lorraine Ella Petrie Brett

Lorraine Ella Petrie Brett, 93, of Terre Haute passed away Monday, September 28, 2020 in Terre Haute Regional Hospital with her son and daughter-in-law there to say goodbye and they loved her before she passed away.  She was born February 1, 1927 in Franklin Grove, IL to Richard J. Petrie and Clara Christina Vaupel Petrie. Lorraine was a media specialist for over 25 years for the Vigo County School Corporation.

Survivors include her son, Edward Richard Brett (Lorna); sister-in-law, Eileen Grigalawski; and her cats, Footer and Piggy. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Lorraine graduated from Ashton, IL High School in 1944, received her B.S. in Education from Northern Illinois State Teachers College in 1948, and her Masters in Library Science in 1974 from Indiana State University.  She was a member of the American Library Association, National Education Association, Indiana State Teachers Association, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, and the Vigo County Retired Teachers Association. After retirement she volunteered many years in the Medical Library at Union Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, October 3, 2020 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25 ^th Street, with Reverend Larry Reck officiating.  Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. on Saturday.  Memorial contributions may be made to Terre Haute Humane Society.
