Lois Jean Kress, 78, of Terre Haute took her golden chariot ride Wednesday, January 25, 2017. She was born with her twin brother June 18, 1938 in Danville, IL to Herbert H. Evans, Sr. and Georgia Shanks Evans. Lois was retired from Walmart.
Survivors include her daughters, Connie Eaglin (Abel Aguilar), Christy Eaglin, and Cindy Eaglin Penrod (Richard); Twin Brother, Larry Evans; sisters-in-law, Shirley Evans, Suzanne Hawkins, Mary Kay Kress, Margie Wooden, Joanne Foli, and Alice Prothero; aunt, Carolyn "Connie" Evans Tweedy; grandchildren, Steven Corter, Jr., Jennifer Corter Cottom, William Penrod (Ashley), Samantha Eaglin Cobix, and Carlos Aguilar; great grandchildren, Juan Eaglin-Lopez, Olivia Cottom, Selena Eaglin Cobix, Dallas Corter, Annaleigh Penrod, Isabel Cottom, Emily Penrod, Gabriella Featherstone, and unborn great grandson; life long friend, Delores Rogers; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, John "Jack" Evans and Herbert H. Evans, Jr. She adopted many of her grandchildren's friends, Breanna Franco, Kenny Pitts, Jeff Butwin, and David Carroll.
Lois was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church; the Wabash Valley Genealogy Society where she was on the program committee for several years; and was an assistant leader for her daughter's brownie troop and assistant Girl Scout Leader for several young ladies in the Wabash Valley. She was fondly known as Grandma or Gma. Lois lived many places with the transfers of her husband who worked for the Federal Bureau of Corrections. She was always opening her home to new arrivals to the area serving as the "Welcome Wagon". She even served coffee to the FBI as they sought an escapee in W. Virginia. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 p.m. Noon on Saturday, January 28, 2017 in St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Father Dan Bedel officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Friday, January 27, 2017 in the church with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to services on Saturday in the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
