Linda Sue (Young) Shaker passed away peacefully in her home Saturday, September 24, surrounded by her loving family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was born August 10, 1943 to Crystal (Bolinger) Young and Donald Young. Her wonderful step-father was John Fuqua.
After graduating from Otter Creek High School in l961, Linda enrolled at Indiana State University and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education in l965. Her teaching career began in Indianapolis at Fleming Garden Elementary School and evolved with life decisions. On March 22, 1970, Linda married her husband, Earl, and moved back home to Terre Haute to continue her teaching career. Once Linda became a mother, she chose to stay home with her daughters. During these years, Linda spent many joyful moments in her beautiful flower gardens and with her many animals. She volunteered at the Terre Haute Humane Society for many years and was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association. When her daughters began school, Linda re-kindled her teaching career and retired from Meadows Elementary in 2004.
Linda lived a life exemplified by grace and dignity. She had an inner beauty which glowed even more than her physical beauty. Linda had a magical way of showing kindness and compassion toward all who knew her. She lived her life with loyalty to family and to her beloved Chi Omega sisters.
Linda is preceded in death by her two infant daughters (Jennifer Lynn Shaker..1974) and Leslie Brooke Shaker1979); her parents and stepfather (John Fugua); mother-in-law and father-in-law (William and Mary Shaker); a beloved cousin ( Jane Giestler of Royal Oaks, MI); other aunts and uncles.
Linda is survived by her husband of 46 years, Earl Shaker; daughters Jennette Mason (husband JR) of Terre Haute; Emily Shaker (husband David) of Bloomington; granddaughter Josie Mason of Terre Haute; granddaughter Eliza Wilson of Bloomington; grandson Alexander Wilson of Bloomington; sister Loretta Mosteller of Terre Haute; nephews, Jay Mosteller and Jeff Mosteller (Sharon) of Marshall; niece, Laura Mosteller of Indianapolis; and cousin, John Trevarthan (Nikki) of Terre Haute.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 in St. Joseph University Parish with Friar Savio Manavalan officiating. Visitation will be prior to services from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society.
