Linda Lee Eldred, 83, of Terre Haute died at Harrison’s Crossing on Thursday evening, August 29, 2024 with family at her bedside. She was born December 19, 1940 in Terre Haute to Lester Eldred and Ruth Maxine Rennels Eldred.
Survivors include her brothers, Richard Eldred (Patricia) of Terre Haute, Daniel Walker of Terre Haute, Robert Walker (Teresa) of Belleair, Florida; and her sister-in-law, Lana Eldred of Terre Haute. Also surviving are her nieces, Christina Eisenbrandt (Terrence), Reneé Walter (Jay), Shelly Helton (Darion), Christy McCullough (Jacob), Elizabeth Maher (Sean), Jenny Kellams (Jason), Catherine Guerin, Anna King (Aaron), and Kelsey Walker; nephews, Gregory Eldred (Kim), Marc Eldred (Stacey), Michael Eldred, Eric Eldred, John Eldred (Lori), D. Joe Walker (Carol) and Nicholas Walker (Kat); along with numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ronald Eldred; and a sister-in-law, Cheryl Walker.
Linda was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She graduated from Glenn High School in 1958 and attended Indiana State University where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. After graduating she taught briefly at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School before accepting a position at ISU as Associate Director of Student Life Programs from August 1963 until retiring in December, 2003. Linda was co-founder of the Blue Berets at ISU.
Linda was very talented. She was an author and designer of several publications for College Unions and a children’s book. She was an artist and a carpenter. Linda received many honors and awards. Most recently she was honored with the establishment of the Linda Eldred Leadership Center at ISU. She dearly loved her work there and the many friends she met along the way. Linda will be sadly missed by family, friends and neighbors.
The family would like to thank all of Linda’s caregivers at Harrison’s Crossing, Sycamore Manor and Southern Care Hospice.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 4, 2024 in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1807 Poplar Street, with Father Todd Riebe officiating. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, September 3rd from 4:00-8:00 PM with a Rosary to be recited at 7:30 PM in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1807 Poplar Street, Terre Haute, IN 47803.
