Lester O. Joy Lester O. Joy, 98, of Terre Haute entered into heaven on Friday, October 3, 2014. He was born on February 9, 1916 in Terre Haute to John Henry Joy and Ada McMullen Joy. Lester was a retired pipe fitter with the former Terre Haute Gas Company. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Malinda Weaver Joy on April 30, 2011. Survivors include two sons, Mark Joy of Terre Haute, and John Joy and his wife Teresa of Chile, South America; three daughters, Linda Whalen and her husband Bill of Terre Haute, Gayle Kelly and her husband Mike of Danville, IN and Judy Chavis and her husband Dave of Rockville;15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren. Lester was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Chester, Delbert, Septer and John Joy; and two sisters, Vera Joy in infancy and Greta Gaserotti. Lester served his country in the U.S. Army during W.W.II and was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. He was a doting father who loved gardening and spending time with his family, especially in the outdoors. Lester was always jovial and witty, known and loved by many throughout the town. Mass of Christian Burial for Lester and Malinda will be conducted on 12:00 P.M. Friday, October 10, 2014 in St. Benedict Catholic Church with Father Martin Day O.F.M., Conv. officiating. Visitation is scheduled prior to services from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Friday in the church.
