Laura Belle Winning, 82, of Terre Haute, passed away Sunday morning, July 26, 2015 at her residence. She was born May 31, 1933 in Dongola, Illinois to Clemon E. Johnson and Rosalind "Nonie" Dillow Johnson. Survivors include her loving husband of 59 years, Jack D. Winning; five children, Deah Coale Haley and her husband, Donald, of Terre Haute, Malinda Hendrix of Nashville, TN, Jackie Anderson and her husband, Brian, of Terre Haute, Jack Laurance Winning of Terre Haute and Jim Winning of Terre Haute; eleven grandchildren, Lauran Coale Kanengiser and her husband, Jed, Jack D. Coale, Evan E. Coale, Curt Hendrix, Will Carey, Kristen Martinez, Vance Martinez, Haley Winning, Brooklyn Winning, Carly K. Winning and Nick Winning; and two great-grandchildren, Layne White and Madison Belle Kanengiser. Also surviving are a cousin, Virginia Jones; a brother-in-law, James F. Winning; and special friends, Phyllis Jean Dillow, Nadeen Jones-Hanley, Sylvia Tharp and Pat Fash. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sons-in-law, Michael Hendrix and Douglas J. Coale. Laura Belle was a graduate of Dongola High School and received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University. She was a Kindergarten teacher with Decatur (Illinois) Schools for several years before becoming a full-time mother. Laura Belle was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of Swope Art Museum, Newcomers Club and Country Club of Terre Haute and was active in Children's Theater. The Winning family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to Union Hospital, Cobblestone Crossings Rehabilitation, Hospice of the Wabash Valley and other care-givers that assisted in Laura Belle's care. Memorial services will be conducted at 11:30 A.M. Thursday, July 30, 2015 in Trinity Lutheran Church, 2620 Ohio Blvd. with Pastor Dana Newhouse officiating. Visitation is scheduled prior to services from 9:30-11:30 A.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
