Larry R. Dorsett, 78, of Terre Haute, Indiana went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 6, 2018.
Larry was born on March 26, 1939 in Terre Haute, IN to E.R. and Estella Dorsett. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved son-in-law Scott Decker.
Reflecting upon Larry's life, his passions were centered around faith, family, and automobiles. He was the owner of Dorsett Auto Sales, Inc. for over 50 years and was an integral part of Dorsett Automotive until December 2017. He was a member of First Baptist Church and had been involved with the Breakfast Optimist Club, The Country Club of Terre Haute, and The Terre Haute Boys & Girls Club.
Larry was a true man of God. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather ("Papaw"), great grandfather, and friend. He loved his work, playing tennis, perfecting his golf game, and spending time with his wife and family. Larry also had a particular love for adventure. He was often seen driving fast cars, motorcycles, boats, and flying planes. He earned a multi-engine instrument rating as a pilot at a young age and even went paragliding in California at the ripe age of 73.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharon Gibson Dorsett, his son Brian Dorsett and his wife Gina Dorsett of Terre Haute; his daughter, Julie Dorsett Decker of Sugar Land, Texas; seven grandchildren, Abigail Dorsett, Brittany Dorsett Young and her husband Cody Young, Brandon Dorsett, Hallie Decker, Drew Decker, Zachary Decker, and Brant Decker; a great-granddaughter, Evelyn Young; and a brother-in-law, John Gibson.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, 4701 Poplar St., Terre Haute on Saturday, February 10th, at 10:00 AM with Reverend Bernie Jackson officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will take place on Friday, February 9th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home 605 South 25th Street, Terre Haute, IN.
