L. Marie Walker, 93, of Terre Haute passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Union Hospital. She was born November 24, 1921 in Columbus, Indiana to Frank Huffman and Esther Johns Huffman. Her husband, Benjamin Walker, preceded her in death in 2009. Survivors include her daughter, Anita Marie Livingston and her husband, Stephen, of Odem, Texas; her son, Kenneth Walker of Lewis, Indiana; five grandchildren, Brian Walker and his wife, Becky, Cole Walker, Alan Livingston and his wife, Lucia, Clint Livingston and Megan Livingston Moore; five great-grandchildren, Tommy Armstrong, Kristen Armstrong, Evylan Walker, Meia Walker and Hinata Walker; a brother-in-law, Leland Trussell of Eldorado Springs, Missouri; and twenty-five nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; two sisters; and a daughter-in-law, Kristianna Walker. Marie lived through the Great Depression and was a member of the Greatest Generation. She attended schools in Columbus, Indiana and graduated from Columbus High School. She married Ben in December of 1939 and from 1943-1947 raised her daughter while he served overseas in the Air Force during World War II. Later she worked as a hospital aide in Columbus for a time and also helped care for a brother's children in her home. She and Ben also became parents of a son in 1956. Marie loved to go fishing and enjoyed taking her row boat on the lake where they lived outside of Columbus. She loved nature and grew many beautiful flowers and gardens. In 1966 Marie and Ben moved to Terre Haute where he taught at Indiana State University. They joined First Baptist Church and made many wonderful friends there. She was a volunteer for the American Heart Association and supported the American Red Cross and Multiple Sclerosis Society as well as her church. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 30, 2015 in First Baptist Church, 4701 Poplar Street, with Reverend Bernie Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, June 29th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
