Katherine Kelly Hoffman

Katherine Kelly Hoffman, 79, of Terre Haute passed away Wednesday evening, December 18, 2024 at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care. She was born July 31, 1945 in Tuscaloosa, AL to James Kelly and Annie Smith Kelly.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, John E. Hoffman; 5 children, Lisa Cox, Laura Lakstins (Brian), John Michael Hoffman, Annie Rightsell (Kyle), and Kevin Hoffman; 14 grandchildren, Kaila Sims (Michael), Connor Hausman, Emily Cox, Lucy Lakstins, Katie Lakstins (Andy), Seth Lakstins, Marin Lakstins, Hillary Felling (Chance), Nick Brady, Jacob McCullough, Samantha Padgett (Travis), Noah McCullough (Colleen), Benji McCullough, and William Fouts; 4 great-grandchildren, Walker and Caroline Sims and Liam and Lily Padgett; 2 sisters, Jenny Frank (Tom) and Julie Miller (Eric); brother-in-law, Dick Hoffman; sister-in-law, Teresa Treash; and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers, Pat Kelly, Brian Kelly, and Kenny Kelly.

Kathy was a 1963 graduate of Schulte High School and received her bachelor’s degree in 1967 from St. Mary-of-the Woods College in piano performance. She taught piano lessons out of her home when her children were young, and many of her former students have wonderful memories of their lessons with Kathy. She was the Founder and former Executive Director of Chances For Youth (Now known as CASY). She was active for many years in the St. Mary-of-the-Woods College Alumnae Club of Terre Haute and was a past president of Children’s Theater of Terre Haute. Kathy was honored with many awards throughout her time at Chances for Youth, including a Sagamore of the Wabash in 1995 and the John K. Lamb Award, an award formerly presented by the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce annually for outstanding community service, in 1997. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 23, 2024 in St. Patrick Church, 1807 Poplar Street, with Father Todd Riebe officiating. Burial will be in

Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, December 22 , 2024 from 4:00-7:00 PM with a Rosary Service to take place at 7:00 PM in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
