Karen Susan Hauser Paauwe
On May 8, 2023, our beloved Karen Susan Hauser Paauwe, 60, ended her battle with cancer and was welcomed home into the arms of her heavenly Father. In her final moments, she was surrounded by the love and warmth of her family and friends.
Karen, a devout Catholic, was born on August 3, 1962 in Livonia, MI. Her compassionate heart and unwavering dedication to helping those less fortunate guided her on a path of service and advocacy. After graduating from Terre Haute North High School, Karen earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Indiana State University, and her Master’s degree in Social Work from IUPUI. She went on to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and devoted her life to serving the disadvantaged, offering unwavering care and support. She served as Clinical Director for Telecare Corporation in San Diego, CA, for more than 22 years, and most recently worked for Vista Hills in Ramona, CA, as a Behavioral Health Consultant.
Karen’s empathy and tireless efforts touched countless lives, reaching far beyond the confines of her professional duties. Whether it was working with vulnerable families, assisting individuals battling mental health challenges, or advocating for social justice, Karen's impact was immeasurable. Even in her final days and despite her own physical discomfort, Karen was frequently heard thanking the doctors, nurses, and staff who entered her hospital room and affirming their work, saying, “What you do is so important.”
Beyond her professional achievements, Karen's true joy in life stemmed from her cherished family. She leaves behind her loving spouse of 35 years, Johnny Paauwe, who stood beside her every step of the way, providing unwavering support and sharing in her steadfast commitment to making a difference. Together, they formed an unbreakable bond, a partnership that exemplified the power of love and shared purpose.
Karen is additionally survived by her son, James (JD) Paauwe, her sister, Barbie, her Granddaughter Jasmyn Paauwe (Nick), and her great-grandson, Nash Paauwe. Karen's kindness and compassion served as a role model for Jasmyn, who carries forward her grandmother's legacy, embracing the values of empathy and care that Karen instilled in her.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, John and Carol Hauser, and her paternal grandparents, Georgia and John Hauser.
Let us not mourn her loss but celebrate the beautiful life she lived, and let Karen's spirit remind us that a single act of kindness can truly change the world.
