Junior P. Fischer

Junior Philipp Fischer, 85, of Terre Haute passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013 in Union Hospital. He was born October 21, 1927 in Rockville, Missouri to Paul T. Fischer and Agnes Philipp Fischer. Junior was a well-respected teacher and principal at St. John Lutheran School in Vincennes for 23 years and retired as a 6th grade teacher at Clark Middle School.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Piepenbrink Fischer whom he married on July 9th 1961. Other survivors include two sisters, Ruth Rapp of Appleton City, MO and Verna Smith and her husband Edson of Ventura, CA; two sisters-in-law, Norma Bucy of Terre Haute and Rosemary Piepenbrink; a brother-in-law, Walter Piepenbrink and his wife Loeva; and several nieces and nephews. Junior was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald Fischer.

Junior served his country as a Sargent in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948. He was a graduate of Concordia College in Seward, Nebraska and later received his Master's Degree from Indiana State University. Junior along with his wife Charlotte were two of the four people who started the Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous 37 years ago and continued to promote the Merchants and Traders Area. He was also very active in the Y's Men Organization (a Y.M.C.A. service organization) locally, regionally and internationally. He also served the Vincennes Community School System as a timer for girls and boys sports. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Ron Maxwell officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park with military rites by Lawton Byrum V.F.W. Post 972. Visitation is scheduled for 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, July 29, 2013 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Tuesday in the church. The family kindly request that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to one the following; Immanuel Lutheran Church, 645 Poplar Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807, St. John Lutheran Church, 707 N. 8th Street, Vincennes IN 47591, Y's Men Endowment Fund, c/o Mr. Bob Daniels, 1323 Woodpath Dr. Florissant, MO 63031 and to "Worship for Shut-Ins," Lutheran Ministries Media Inc., 5 Martin Luther Drive, Ft.
