Judy A. Legg, 72, of Terre Haute passed away peacefully surrounded by family Tuesday morning, June 6, 2023. She was born in Terre Haute July 12, 1950 to Lowell Ray Rooney and Elsie J. Brown Rooney.
Survivors include her husband, Robert D. Legg; her son, David Stamper; her daughter, Jodi Ferguson (Greg); two step-sons, Bobby Legg (Angela) and Cole Legg (Dezerai); her sister, Cheryl R. Porter; eleven grandchildren, Lindsey Feller (Colt), Joshua Basham (Velvet), Lacey Nepote, Haley Stamper, Aspen Stamper, Greggie Ferguson, Kyran Legg, Bailey Legg, Deacon Legg, Kolbie Legg and Addison Legg; and five great-grandchildren, Alivia, Bentley, Leila, Raegan and Gabby. Also surviving are brothers-in-law, Michael Legg (Danielle) and Eric Holechko; sisters-in –law, Kathleen Berger (Donald), Doreen McKillop (Darrell) and Colleen Pettijohn-Spice (Mike); and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Robert D. Legg; mother-in-law, Eileen Legg Wilkinson; step-father-in-law, William E. Wilkinson; sister-in-law, Mary Legg Holechko; brother-in-law, Jerry Pettijohn; and niece, Mary Elizabeth Legg.
Judy was a 1968 graduate of Gerstmeyer High School and received her Associates Degree in Nursing from Ivy Tech. Early in her career, she worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Holstein, then worked as a labor and delivery nurse at Union Hospital and Regional Hospital. She retired from Health Care Excel after 24 years.
She was a very active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and volunteered with the Soup Kitchen. She was also a member of the Shamrockers, Facilities Committee, Altar Society, and Card Ministry Group. Judy was devoted to her faith and family, and spent retirement traveling with her husband and spoiling her grandkids.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM, Monday, June 12, 2023 in St. Patrick Church, 1807 Poplar Street, with Very Reverend Father Benjamin Syberg officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Monday from 9:00-11:00 AM in the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
