Judith G. (Judy) Elsey, 78, of Terre Haute passed away Wednesday afternoon, November 1, 2017. She was a biology teacher with the Vigo County School Corporation having taught at Sarah Scott Middle School and later at Terre Haute South High School. In 1991 she was honored as the Outstanding Biology Teacher in the State of Indiana. Judy was born April 12, 1939 in Chicago, IL to John Greene and Beatrice Bush Greene.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Robert William Elsey, Sr.; children, Holly Hudson (Steve), Bob Elsey, Jr. and Heather Donahue (Steven); grandchildren, Jenna Hudson, Parker & Elyssa Elsey and Ian & Gabe Donahue; a sister-in-law, Diana Hosfeld (Terry); and a brother-in-law, Wally Bosse. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Charles Greene; and a sister-in-law, Pat Bosse.
Judy earned her Bachelor's degree from Purdue University and her Masters' degree from Indiana State University. She was a long-time member of Seelyville United Methodist Church. Judy was a lover of animals and had served in many capacities at the Terre Haute Humane Society. In 2002 she was honored with the Humane Society Volunteer of the Year. Judy also was the founder of the HOPE Project which was established to help spay and neuter cats and dogs for low income families.
Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 18, 2017 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th St., with Reverend Ann Thomas officiating. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Saturday from 9:00-11:00 AM in the funeral home.
