Judith Elizabeth Greven Barnebey, 82, of Terre Haute passed away Friday, January 1, 2021.
She is survived by her son, Andrew Barnebey; grandchildren, Nick, Will and Bridget Barnebey; daughter-in-law, Kris Barnebey; and her sister-in-law, Pat Greven. She is also survived by her nephews, Aaron Greven (Kristin) and Alex Greven (Allison); niece, Maya Greven (Mike); cousin, Jeannette Prautzsch (Guenter) and their daughter, Jana (Bjoern); great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; younger son, Daniel Barnebey; and her brother, John Greven.
Judy was born in Chicago on May 31, 1938 to Georgia Mason Greven originally from Arthur, IL and Hans Greven, a German immigrant. She graduated from the University of Chicago and taught German, Spanish and English for 20 years at North Central High School in Sullivan County. After her retirement, she volunteered at St. Ann Dental Clinic and later at Garfield Towers Brown Bag Lunch Program.
Judy loved her family and friends, conversation, teaching, politics, singing, reading, cats, trees, puttering in her yard, watching things grow, the Sisters of Providence, mysticism, her St. Ann Parish community and foreign cultures. She was grateful for all the adventures, little and big, which life brought her.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 12:05 PM, Friday, January 8, 2021 in St. Benedict Catholic Church, 111 South 9 th Street, with Father Martin Day, OFM Conv. officiating. Due to Covid-19 there is no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25 th Street.
