Joyce A. Cook

Joyce Hopewell Cook, 81, of Terre Haute passed away Saturday afternoon, November 28, 2020.  She was a Realtor in Terre Haute for over 38 years.  Joyce was born August 20, 1939 in Danville, IL to Harry Hopewell and Hazel Malone Hopewell.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, William B. Cook;  daughter, Leslie Cook of Houston, TX;  son, Warren Cook (Teresa) of New Castle, IN;  her sister-in-law, Carol Cook of Terre Haute;  five grandchildren, Emily Cole (Kyle), Mackenzie Garreth, Madison Garreth, Anna Cook and Nathan Garreth;  a great-granddaughter, Kambree Cole;  and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents;  and two sisters.

Joyce graduated from DePauw University with a bachelor’s degree in music and received a master’s degree in education from Indiana State University in 1969.  In 1961 she married her high school sweetheart, Bill Cook.  Joyce’s career started in music when she taught elementary music for 8 years and later became manager of Paige’s Music in Honey Creek Square.  After working in music, she joined Larry Helman / Coldwell Banker as a Realtor working for 38 years until her retirement.  Joyce was very active in local real estate and was President of the Terre Haute Board of Realtors and later became State President of Realtors in 1992.  She was honored as State Realtor of the Year in 1999 and the Distinguished Service Award in 2015.  She was a very active member of Central Presbyterian Church, was a member of P.E.O. Chapter DR and enjoyed playing in several bridge clubs.

Due to Covid-19 there are no services at this time.  Memorial Services will be scheduled at a later date in Central Presbyterian Church.  Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25 th Street.  If friends should so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 125 North 7 th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807.  Funeral information and tributes may be found at www.callahanandhughes.com .
