Dr. Joseph C. Minnis, Jr, Dr. Joseph C. Minnis, Jr, 78, of West Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2015. He was born in West Terre Haute to Dr. Joseph C. Minnis, Sr. and Waunetta Cooper Minnis on November 17, 1936. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Patricia Campbell Minnis. Other survivors include his daughter, Susan Everett and her husband Thomas of Brownsburg, IN; a son, John Minnis and his wife Mary of McKinney, TX; two brothers, William Minnis and his wife Jennifer of Paris, IL, and James Minnis and his wife Mihaela of New York City; a sister, Judith Lowe and her husband James of Terre Haute; five grandchildren, Ryne Everett, Cary Everett, Jessica Everett, Jacob Minnis and Julia Minnis; and many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents. Joe was a 1954 graduate of Wiley High School and an Eagle Scout. He was a 1960 graduate of Indiana University School of Dentistry, practicing locally and retiring in 1992. He also owned and operated Minnis International for many years. Joe was a 12-year member of the Vigo County School Board and served as President in 2009. He was a 50-year member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Terre Haute as well as a member of the Vigo County Education Foundation. In 2009, he received the Kiwanis Indiana Foundation Eagle Leadership award. Joe was a volunteer with SCORE, The Service Corps of Retired Executives, and was awarded Junior Achievement's Educator of the Year in 2010. He was a past president of Midwest Implement Dealers Association and Western Indiana Dental Society. Joe was an active farmer, raising registered Hereford cattle. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 5, 2015 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street, with the Reverend Steven Moore officiating. Burial will be in New Providence Cemetery in Edgar County, IL. Visitation is scheduled from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. Sunday, October 4, 2015 in the funeral home.
