Jose A. Carballo, age 90, of Terre Haute passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021. He was born on June 17, 1931 in La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain.
Jose is survived by one son, Jose Miguel Carballo Torres (Mili Boschetti); two daughters, Maria Elliott (Bill Elliott) and Emmy Carballo-Torres; and six grandchildren: Jose Miguel Carballo Boschetti (Alina Romero), Carlos Eduardo Carballo Boschetti (Christine Lamastus), Ross Jose Elliott (Marie Elliott), Rosalina Elliott (Ben Elliott), Evan Elliott and Cristina Elliott. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren: David O. Elliott, Nicole E. Elliott, Antonio J. Elliott, Lillian M. Elliott, Eva J. Elliott, Emiliana Carballo and Theodore L. Elliott; two sisters, Maria Dolores Carballo and Maria Adelina Carballo; one brother, Rosendo Carballo; one brother in-law, Jose Verde; four sisters in-law, Charo Ventura, Bely Belloso, Ana Torres and Reina Gonzalez; many loving nieces and nephews, family members and friends and a very special adopted daughter, Beth Collins.
Jose is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Emma Carballo; his parents, Jose Carballo Fernandez & Dolores Benitez Lorenzo and one brother, Eugenio Carballo Benitez.
Jose was a retired Electrical Engineer from The Shell Oil Company in Venezuela and most recently he retired as a Bookkeeper from Ross Elliott Jewelers in Terre Haute.
Jose enjoyed soccer, reading, crossword puzzles and Sudoku. Even in most recent times, he showed passion for learning historic world events by listening to his audiobooks: but the most fulfilling hobby was talking to and about his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will always be remembered as loving, kind, and as a man of exemplary ethics.
Special thanks to the friends he made and the nurses and personnel that took care of him over the last few months at VNA Hospice of the Wabash Valley and Springhill Village Nursing Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 12:05 PM, Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at St. Benedict Church, 111 S. 9th Street, with Father Martin Day, OFM Conv. officiating. Visitation will be held prior to services starting at 11:00 AM in the church. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum in Terre Haute.
