John W. Throckmorton, 88, of Terre Haute passed away Monday, January 11, 2016 in Union Hospital. He was born February 14, 1927 in Terre Haute to Warner Throckmorton and Iona Washburn Throckmorton. John was the owner of Throckmortons Maytag Appliances.
Survivors include his wife, Priscilla Dooley Throckmorton; three sons, John Throckmorton, Jr. of Terre Haute, Michael Throckmorton of Houston, TX, and Matthew Throckmorton of Clinton; three grandchildren, Joseph Throckmorton, Eric Throckmorton, and Kevin Throckmorton all of Terre Haute. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty June Throckmorton; and his son Brian Throckmorton.
John was a World War II Navy veteran. He attended Memorial United Methodist Church and was a member of the Elks. John owned his own airplane and flew around the tip of South America and later around the world. He loved to travel and had traveled many places around the world.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 14, 2015 in Callahan Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Reverend Scott Johnson officiating. Entombment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled prior to services from 9:00 11:00 A.M. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the American Heart Association.
