John Ruger Stockdale

John Ruger Stockdale, 79, of Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 in his residence. He was born on December 19, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan to Michael Ernest Stockdale and Mary Elizabeth Ruger Stockdale. John was a retired bookkeeper. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Genevieve Cozette Stantz Stockdale.
Other survivors include two daughters, Theresa Kay Stockdale of Terre Haute and Mary Cathleen Berghoff and her husband Patrick of Noblesville, IN; a son, John Robert Stockdale and his wife Valarie of Brentwood, TN; six grandchildren, Sara Marie Brown, Eric Robert Berghoff, Emily Rose Berghoff, Scott Patrick Berghoff, Justin Paul Stockdale and Kristin Kathleen Stockdale; two great grandsons, Brandon Scott Brown II and Raylen Patrick Brown; and a sister-in-law, Ann Etta Spears of Humansville, MO; He was preceded in death by his parents; a mother and father-in-law, Oma Stantz Taylor and Hubert Stantz; and a step-mother, Beatrice Stockdale.
John was a long time member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and attended Holy Rosary. He is a current member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. He had worked for W.T. Grant, Jewell Tea, Scottys Restaurant, Terre Haute Malleable, Quaker Maid and St. Patrick Soup Kitchen. John was a member and past president of Serra Club, former member of The Board of Directors for Catholic Cemetery Association.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Saturday March 5, 2016 in St. Benedict Catholic Church with Father Matthew Malek officiating. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday March, 4, 2016 in Callahan Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street with a rosary at 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home.
