John W. Rushing

August 10, 1937 — June 27, 2016

John W. Rushing, 78, of Terre Haute passed away on Monday, June 27, 2016 in his residence. He was born August 10, 1937 in Terre Haute to John Albert Rushing and Viola Mae Weigler Rushing. John was a safety inspector for the Vigo County School Corporation and had retired from General Telephone.

Survivors include his daughter, Diana Rushing Williams and her husband Mark of Colorado Springs, CO; step-sons, Gary Cooper and Dan Cooper both of Terre Haute; Daughter-in-law, Mary Cooper of Terre Haute; brother, Charles Rushing of Crawfordsville, IN; eight grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Rushing; his father and step-mother, John and Mary Rushing; his mother, Viola Rushing; brother, Glen Rushing; sisters, Lois Ruark and Johanna Sizemore; and step-son, Michael Cooper.

John was a member of the electricians union, the Fraternal Order of the Police, and the Riley American Legion.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 1, 2016 in Callahan Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Pastor Kyle Andrews officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2016. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Terre Haute Humane Shelter or the Wounded Warrior Project.
