John Ray Hovey ”Coach”, 76, of Terre Haute, passed away Sunday, August 4th, 2024, in his home. He was born on April 8th, 1948, in Terre Haute to the late Henry & Betty Hovey. He married Pamela Montgomery on December 18, 1993 & she survives him. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Jack, Henry, & Chuck Hovey, his son Johnny Guy & sister-in-law Barb Hovey.
John is survived by his children; Anthony Rollo (Kiley), Ryan Hovey (Heather Thacker) & Rachel Hovey Leslie (Johnny)
Grandchildren: Ashton Rollo, Johnathon Hovey, Jacob Hovey, Isaac Rollo, Keaton Rollo, & Coltin (CC) Hovey
Brother Jimmy Hovey & Sister Ruthann Hovey.
Special niece & nephews: Johnny Dale Hovey (Monika), Jimbo (Sharon) Hovey, Jina Hovey and Jack Hall
Several other nieces, nephews, brothers-in-laws & sisters-in-laws.
John retired from the Terre Haute Police Department on September 2,1997, after 24 years of service as a corporal in CID. During his career he was assigned to Uniform Division, Traffic Division, & CID.
He was honored with Police Officer of the year in 1988.
John enjoyed fishing & golfing in his free time, going camping with his wife & friends & most of certainty spending time with his family. He was an avid sports enthusiast; die hard Bears fan….DA BEARS!
John was full of knowledge and had many stories to share, especially about his time on the THPD and living in Chicago. John played softball & basketball with the FOP. John was a member of the Terre Haute FOP Lodge 85, Zorah Shrine & Masonic Lodge Humboldt #42.
Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 9, 2024 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street followed by services at 11:00 A.M. officiated by the Terre Haute Police Department.
