Joan Kathryn Hart

Joan Kathryn (Schabel) Hart, age 94, passed away July 24, 2020 at the Health Center of Westminster Village. She was born September 30, 1925 in Hammond, IN to Francis William Schabel and Kathleen (Conroy) Schabel and grew up in Terre Haute, graduating from Garfield High School and Indiana State Teachers College (ISU). Joan was a high school business teacher prior to marrying and raising a family, later returning to work as a substitute teacher and then a legal secretary.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Warner Hart, her sister, Barbara Puntillo, and her brothers, Donald Schabel and Bill Schabel. She is survived by her sister Mary Ellen Schukai of St. Louis; five children, Kathleen Hart (Mark Swanson) of Albuquerque, NM, Lou Hart (Ellen) of Argyle, TX, Susan Taylor (Ron) of Terre Haute, Barbara Hart of Terre Haute, and Tim Hart (Jennifer) of Raleigh, NC., as well as seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, a private family graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers you may make donations in Joan's name to the Hospice of the Wabash Valley or St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church.
