Joan Coffel Barr
June 29, 1929 — December 9, 2019
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Carole Barr; her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and William V. Smith; three grandsons, Scott Smith and wife, Erin, Kenneth Smith, and Daniel Smith and wife, Charlene; two great-grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of fifty-nine years, Joseph Lyle Barr, who died in 2009.
Joan graduated from Wiley High School in 1947 and attended Indiana State University where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Sorority and remained active as an alum.
Joan was an active member of Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Finders-Seekers Sunday School Class and Grace Circle, and was a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter AW. She and her husband, Lyle, owned and operated the Public Accounting Firm of Barr & Associates prior to retirement in 1995. Joan's enjoyments were her family, friends, travel, cross-stitching and reading.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, December 12, 2019 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. Funeral services will follow on Friday, December 13, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, with Reverend Scott Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that for those who desire, memorial contributions be made to Memorial United Methodist Church, 2701 Poplar Street, Terre Haute, IN 47803 or 14th and Chestnut Community Center, 1403 Chestnut St., Terre Haute, IN 47807.
