Joan Ruth Barbee
Joan Ruth Barbee, 80, of Terre Haute passed away Thursday December 15, 2016 in her residence. She was born to John Carlson and Lorene Ward Carlson in Terre Haute on August 21, 1936. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Adron Barbee who died in 2014.
Joan is survived by four daughters, Lisa Paul and her husband Bill of Terre Haute, Cynthia Barbee of Terre Haute, Sharon Hancock and her husband John of Texas and Diana Bowden and husband Troy of Terre Haute; two brothers, Vernon Carlson of Clay City and James Carlson and his wife Brenda of West Terre Haute; three sisters, Carol Penrod of Texas, Elaine Stephens and her husband Jim of Staunton and Margie Stewart and her husband Bill of Texas; several grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Norm Carlson and a sister, Patricia Madigan.
Joan was a graduate of Gerstmeyer Technical High School. She was passionate about her faith and family. She fearlessly took care of her husband up to his passing, and was taking care of her family up to the day she went to be with her Savior and Lord. Joan taught Sunday school for many years at Hulman Street Wesleyan Church. She was a petite woman but had a enormous heart. She was always reading her Bible and always in prayer with everyone. She was a prayer warrior. Joan will be greatly missed, but the knowledge that she is reunited with her beloved husband brings us joy.
Funeral services will be conducted on 2:00 P.M. Monday December 19, 2016 at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street with Pastor Harvey Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled two hours prior to services.
