Jo Ann Smith

Jo Ann Smith, 77, of Terre Haute passed away Tuesday morning, February 20, 2024.  She was born December 22, 1946 in Terre Haute to Joseph R. Dowell and Catherine L. Rice Dowell.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, John W. Smith;  children, Jacqueline Morse (Brian) of Terre Haute and Shawn Smith (Catherine) of Evansville, IN;  three grandchildren, Jacob Morse, Riley Morse and Megan Morse;  her brother, Terry Dowell  (Anna Lee) of Terre Haute;  sister-in-law, Gayle Lynn Dowell of Terre Haute;  and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents;  a brother, Robert Dowell;  and a sister, Janice Dowell.

Jo Ann was a 1964 graduate of Schulte High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University.  Early in her career, she was a teacher in Brookville, IN where she taught in Middle School health and gym classes.  Jo Ann enjoyed cross stitch and loved exercising of all kinds.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, February 28, 2024 in St. Joseph University Parish, 113 South 5th Street, with Father Cyprian Uline officiating.  Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.  Visitation is scheduled prior to services from 10:00 AM- 12:00 Noon in the church.  Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.  If friends should so desire, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O.
