Jo Ann McCullough Criss, 96 of Terre Haute died on Palm Sunday, March 28. She was born May 10, 1924 to Jesse and Kathryn McCullough in Indianapolis and had a younger sister, Sally Papinchock. In third grade she moved to Terre Haute, where she spent most of her life. She married Rose Hulman electrical engineering and computer science professor Dr. Darrell Criss in 1943, who preceded her in death. In the 1960s, she earned a degree from ISU in education and library science. Active in the church community, she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and worked as a church secretary. She loved to sing in the church choir, enjoyed acting in the community theater, and was an alto for the Terre Haute Symphony Chorus. She was also a dedicated Chicago Cubs fan. She is survived by 7 children: Pamela Criss Spelbring, Mark Alan Criss, Cynthia Joan Criss, David Darrell Criss, Elizabeth Elaine Carpenter, Lisa Carol Criss-Dickerson, and Timothy Eric Criss, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A private visitation for family will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 2, with a public visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25 th St. The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, April 3, at 11:00 beginning at Callahan & Hughes, followed by a short service at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to a performing arts group or some other charity of your choice in honor of this strong lady’s life or you can support Jo Ann’s favorite charity case, the Cubs!
