Jessie E. Mccune

Jessie E. McCune, 90, of Terre Haute passed away on December 12, 2015 at Springhill Village where she had resided since 2013. She was born on July 21, 1925 in Parke County, IN to Henry Keith McCune and Jessie Mine Beeson McCune. Her parents and two brothers John Richard and James Beeson preceded her in death. Jessie was Assistant Professor of English, Emerita at Indiana State University. She graduated from that same University in 1946 and served her alma mater for 34 years teaching Childrens Literature, An Introduction to Literature, and Composition. She was awarded the Caleb Mills Distinguished Teaching Award and was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Key Women Educators and American Association of University Women. Jessie also completed graduate work at the University of Colorado and Southern Illinois University. She retired in 1990. Jessie was an active supporter of many community arts and cultural organizations including the Terre Haute Symphony, Crossroads Theatre, and the Sheldon Swope Art Museum, where she served as docent for many years. Survivors include her niece, Pamela McCune, nephew-in-law Lee Burgin, and her devoted friend Effie Hunt. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 17, 2015 in the Chapel at Roselawn Memorial Park with Brother Mark Grayless officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. There is no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made to The Alzheimers Association or a charity of your choice.
