When a person leaves this world what they have done to help others lives on forever. Jennifer Jean Piker, 71, lived that philosophy during her career, through volunteer work, and especially in her love of family and friends. Jenny passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care after a courageous battle against two incurable diseases.
Jenny cared deeply about others and was loved by everyone who knew her. She was a tireless advocate for so many causes from quality early childhood education, to being a
mentor for women of all ages, initiating programs and raising funds to help those in need.
Her memory and spirit will endure through her loving family and friends
whom
Jenny deeply cherished with endless care and concern. They include David her devoted husband for nearly 49 years, a son Matthew, who provided her with continued joy, pride and love. Sisters Nancy Hankins (husband Randy) and Amanda Kibler whose special relationships with Jenny were the type that only siblings can give. Loving family members include niece Tess DeHart (husband Kyle), great nephew and great niece Jay and Zoe DeHart; cousins Mike Broadhurst (wife Susan) Joe Broadhurst, Mary Ann Hazelett (husband Joe), and Jill Dietz (husband Steve).
Jenny is the daughter of Kenneth and Jean Kibler of West Terre Haute. Other deceased family members include her grandparents Hilda and Edmund Broadhurst and Roy and Elizabeth Kibler.
Her career started at Indiana State University where she met special friend Rosie Wozniak, who with her husband Terry, along with daughters Christine and Maureen, became like family to Jenny and Dave.
In 1971, Jenny began her 36-year career at Eli Lilly and Company as one of the first employees hired to start up the company's Clinton Laboratories. Her first position as an assistant in employee benefits started Jenny on a path leading to challenging jobs and continued promotions. Jenny was involved in the early information technology advancements for the company. She managed the plant's health and safety departments, served as a master scheduler tracking materials around the world, and concluded her career in logistics/supply chain. The last eight years of her career were in positions at corporate headquarters in Indianapolis.
Her work responsibilities never prevented Jenny from her concern for others. For more than 20 years, Jenny served on the board of directors of Valley Child Development Center in Clinton. Most of those years, she was board president and directed fund-raising efforts for Valley. She worked to establish the first utility assistance fund to prevent low income families from losing essential services. Jenny participated in several St. Joseph University Parish sponsored mission trips to Honduras. She chaired the church's outreach committee and helped organize a project to encourage parishes and parishioners to initiate emergency preparedness plans.
During her retirement many of Jenny's volunteer activities continued while she enjoyed spending more time perfecting her exceptional culinary skills to the delight of many including her special, Bunco group of neighborhood ladies. Jenny and Dave took advantage of their son's home in Paris, France to create family memories while joining him on journeys throughout many European countries.
