Jeffrey Michael Malloy

January 8, 1980 — June 9, 2024

If you ever had the opportunity to meet Jeff Malloy, you’d remember it forever, as he was a friend to all.

Jeffrey Michael Malloy passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Sunday, June 9, and for someone to leave us so young, our greatest comfort is knowing how much pure joy Jeff packed into his 44 years.

Jeff was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on January 8, 1980. He was not only a true original but unwaveringly true to himself in the passions he pursued in life.

From a young age Jeff was an avid outdoorsman and lover of nature, achieving the highest rank in scouting, Eagle Scout. He continued to share his fondness for outdoor adventure with his own family while remaining active in his sons’ local Boy Scout troop.

Jeff was a very proud and active alum of Ball State University in Muncie, IN where he made many life-long friends, including his best friend and wife Kristen (Brinkman) Malloy to whom he over-joyously married in 2008. Jeff continued his pursuit of higher education earning a Master’s Degree from Indiana University.

Shortly after marrying, Jeff and Kristen moved to Terre Haute, IN, where he proudly took an active role in the community as a Board Member for the Community Theatre of Terre Haute, President of his HOA, parishioner at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and Den Leader for his sons’ Boy Scout troop.

Jeff and Kristen built a beautiful life and home together in Terre Haute full of family, friends and faith. It was in “Terredise”, as Jeff coined it, where he kept a meticulous lawn, grew a beautiful backyard full of flowering plants and exuberantly played grill master.

He built a mission-driven career in higher education where he excelled and forged strong relationships, for many years at St. Mary of the Woods College as the Dean of Students and most recently at Rose–Hulman Institute of Technology as Director of Major Gifts.

Jeff truly hit the jackpot with Kristen, who shares his love for pop culture, karaoke, family road trips to Florida and maybe humored him just a little with his passion for jazz, Tony Bennett, in particular.

Jeff was an avid reader, a walking Wikipedia with a wealth and breadth of knowledge from government and politics to entertainment and history, which fueled his knack for storytelling and being known as an incredible conversationalist.

A love of music was something he not only shared with his late grandfather Charles R. Sears, with whom he was incredibly close, but also his father Bill Malloy with whom he would make annual pilgrimages to see the band Chicago every summer. Not a day went by where Jeff didn’t text or talk to his mother Malinda Malloy, whether sharing in their joint love for gardening, cooking and holiday planning or chatting about the latest celebrity gossip. Jeff was truly an amazing son, always doing something to make his parents proud.

No one was more aware of this fact than his younger brother Andy Malloy and younger sister Molly Malloy. Jeff was the quintessential eldest brother, caring, nurturing and always the first one to guide them through the ups and downs of life … and even willing to sit in the middle seat in the back of the family minivan on trips to the lake to play umpire to sibling rivalry.

Jeff was a beloved uncle, always eager to join his young nephews and nieces in video game matches, swimming at the community pool or building Legos on the living room floor, while being there for the older nephews and nieces to provide a listening ear and guidance. His strong faith made him the obvious choice in taking on the role of Godparent to three of his nephews and nieces.

Jeff played many roles in his amazing life, but the ones he did best and loved the most were that of devoted husband to Kristen and fun-loving father to his sons Gavin (13) and Mason Malloy (9). Whether going on fishing trips in local state parks, cheering them on at swim meets, baseball and basketball games or embarking on adventurous outings on a whim, Jeff lived for his wife and kids and being husband and father to them was the foundation and greatest joy of his life.

The mark Jeff made on this earth and all whom he encountered is immeasurable and a model for a life well lived.

Jeff is survived by his wife Kristen Malloy, his sons Gavin and Mason Malloy, his parents Bill and Malinda Malloy and his brother Andy Malloy and sister-in-law Emma Malloy and nephews Henrik and Axel Malloy; sister Molly Malloy and brother-in-law Ben Laws and nephew Charlie Malloy-Laws; father and mother-in-law Al and Cathy Brinkman; brothers and sisters-in-law Melissa (Brinkman) and Glenn Adams, Andy and Michelle Brinkman, Craig and Carol Brinkman, Keri Brinkman and Wiaam Suleiman; nephews and nieces Caitlyn, Jack, Sam, Max, Lacy, Jordan, Clara, Micah, Ellie, Alex, Jude, and Jadd. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Alma and Charles Sears and Jack and Mary Lou Malloy.
