Jean Elizabeth Hassler Hollar died on March 12, 2015, at Hoosier Village Health Center in Indianapolis. She was born in Connersville, Indiana, on June 16, 1923, the daughter of Ernest and Gladys Lockhart Hassler. She was a graduate of Connersville High School, class of 1941, Hanover College, and received a master's degree from Indiana State University in 1970. She graduated from Hanover in 1945 and continued there as a faculty member for two years. In 1947 she married Robert L. Hollar, who preceded her in death in 2009. They lived in Terre Haute from 1950 - 1995. Mrs. Hollar taught for the Vigo County Public Schools, was an interim instructor in the English department at ISU, and later was an employee of the Vigo County Public Library. They moved to Carmel, Indiana, in 1995. Mrs. Hollar was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis, Phi Mu sorority, P.E.O. Chapter F, and the Ft. Harrison Chapter of D.A.R. Survivors include two daughters, Connie McLaren (and husband Bruce) of Terre Haute and Carolyn Palmer (and husband Don) of Carmel; five grandchildren, Anne McLaren, Cathy VanNahmen (husband Marshall), Christopher Palmer (wife Natalie), Liz Schafer (husband Matt), and Emily Palmer; and three great-grandchildren, Grant, Claire, and Hadley VanNahmen, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, William and Philip Hassler of Connersville. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 15, from 1:00 - 3:00 at Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St. in Terre Haute. The funeral service, conducted by Rev. Lant B. Davis, will follow at 3:00. Entombment will be on Monday, March 16, at Roselawn Memorial Park, Terre Haute. The family would like to express deep appreciation to the staff of Hoosier Village Health Center for Jean's care. Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, the P.E.O. Sisterhood Program for Continuing Education, or the charity of their choice.
