Jay Bryant Peters, 62, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed peacefully and surrounded by family on November 6, 2015. He was born October 16, 1953 in Terre Haute to Jerome Peters and Mary Bryant Peters. A devoted husband to Sally Johnson Peters for 42 years, Jay's most favorite pastime was spending time with his family. Jay's legacy includes the children and grandchildren he raised with Sally, including: Jill Peters Blunk (husband, Chris), Jenny Peters (Brian Reece), Jon Peters (wife, Amber), Joe Peters (wife, Lori) and grandchildren, Riley Ann Higginbotham, Reese Michelle Higginbotham, Bailey Ann Blunk, Gavin Christopher Blunk and twins, Violet Jay Peters and Gibson Bruce Peters. Also surviving are his siblings: twin sister Joy Davis (husband, Eddie), Janet Miller, Jeri Doty, Mindy Sheff, Marty Peters and D Stockwell; and several nieces and nephews. Jay was a beloved father figure to Betsy Walker and Justin Vanderbilt. He leaves behind two lifelong best friends, Rick Starbuck and Mike Worrell. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Stockwell, father, Jerome Peters, stepfather, Malcolm Stockwell, and brothers, Mike and Mark Peters. Jay was a 1971 graduate of Wiley High School and attended Indiana State University. An avid outdoorsman, hunter and golfer, Jay was a member of Brothers of the Woods and always looked forward to spending time with friends at their annual winter camp out. Jay was also a music and sports lover and shared the love of those activities with his children, coaching youth sports for years. He worked for Weston/International Paper for over 30 years and retired from Novelis, Inc. A memorial service will be held at Hulman Street Wesleyan Church, 1620 S. 20th Street, Terre Haute, IN on Wednesday, November 11th at 10:30am. A celebration of life will follow immediately after the service in the fellowship hall.
